Application Procedure
The application process takes place via our online portal Mobility Online. International students with EU/EEA citizenship, please apply as free mover Europe. Other international students please apply as free mover overseas. Information on required documents, application deadlines and university costs, you can find below.
After receiving your application with all required documents, a confirmation of receipt will be sent to you via email. Approx. 4-6 weeks later (provided completed application files), you will receive another email from us with your application result and further instructions.
Please note that we are unable to expedite or prioritise the treatment of applications and provision of admission letters.
Free Movers (Overseas): In order to apply please send us an email with your full name, name and country of your university, your study area and exchange semester.

- Application form signed by you
- Motivation letter
- Proof of German knowledge (at least B2 successfully completed; at least C1 successfully completed for application to the Department of Chemistry and Biosciences; we accept nearly all language certificates including those issued by your university) AND
- Proof of sufficient English knowledge (at least C1 successfully completed) if you are planning to attend English-taught lectures at KIT
- Filled in Learning Agreement
- Current transcript of records
- Proof of enrolment at your home university

Enrolment fee is currently 188.70 € per semester, there is no tuition fees. | Enrolment fee is currently 188.70 € per semester. Since winter semester 2017/18, tuition fees of EUR 1,500 per semester has to be paid by international students at the universities in Baden-Württemberg. Information on students exempt from the obilgation to pay tuition fees, you can find here. |
Please note that our academic year is divided into two semester: the Winter Semester (October-March) and the Summer Semester (April-September), for further details please visit https://www.sle.kit.edu/english/imstudium/697.php. It is advisable to come within one semester; otherwise you must pay the enrolment fee (and for non-EU/EEA citizen the tuition fees) twice.
