Helmholtz International Fellow Award for Excellent Researchers and Science Managers from Abroad

- Date: January 23, 2020

The award is intended to intensify the existing cooperation between Helmholtz Centers and foreign research institutions and to strengthen the links between Helmholtz researchers and excellent international colleagues. It is also intended to further increase the Helmholtz Association’s international visibility as an outstanding research institution and attractive cooperation partner. Finally, a multiplier effect is hoped for: Helmholtz International Fellows can act as “ambassadors” for the Helmholtz Association and promote further networking and cooperation with their country of origin and/or their home institution. The KIT (as large-scale research sector and university sector) is entitled to apply.
The award is aimed at outstanding scientists (senior scientists) and research managers from abroad who have distinguished themselves through their work in areas relevant to Helmholtz and who already have a cooperation with a Helmholtz Center. International experience in the scientific management of foreign research institutions is also taken into account in the selection process. Nominations of qualified female scientists are particularly welcome. The prize is awarded in recognition of the scientific merits and personality of the awardee and is endowed with a total of 20,000 euros.
The most important criteria are the scientific performance of the nominee, his/her international reputation, and the compatibility of the research area or project with the activities of the proposing Helmholtz Center. Eligible are German or foreign researchers who work abroad and do not have an employment contract with a Helmholtz Center. In particular, the award will be given to individuals who already work successfully with Helmholtz Centers.
Application Procedure and Deadlines
Nominations can be submitted using the provided template in English by KIT researchers and scientists to the International Affairs (INTL) Business Unit with the following documents:
