KIT and its predecessor institutions have maintained cooperative relationships with China for decades. China is of particular interest to KIT due to its still enormous economic power and rapid scientific development. In order to position KIT's interests in this context, KIT's portfolio of activities in China aims to

  • position KIT in China as a preferred cooperation partner in research, teaching and transfer. In addition, KIT wants to work with recognized, research-strong partners to jointly develop and implement solutions for the major social challenges of the 21st century. These include a sustainable energy supply, resource-saving mobility of the future and, above all, joint efforts in climate and environmental sciences;
  • to promote the exchange of personnel and the recruitment of talented young scientists for KIT;
  • to offer the many individual research cooperations with Chinese partners under the KIT umbrella brand increased visibility, an information platform and concerted marketing as well as to leverage synergies.

Currently, there are different formats of cooperation between KIT and around 50 partner institutions at 16 locations in China.

KIT is aware of its responsibility for its students, researchers and employees and provides its members with up-to-date and relevant information on the China Competence Platform. In cooperation with other specialist departments at KIT, ICoP offers comprehensive advice on initiating, developing, evaluating or terminating collaborations. The analysis is based on extensive testing procedures in cooperation with the specialist departments.
