Workshop with KIT and Joint Institute Shanghai Jiao Tong/Michigan
At a joint matchmaking workshop in the beginning of October, scientists of KIT and the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI) have discussed future cooperation projects. The event aimed at identifying potential collaboration in optics & photonics, solid-state physics and nanotechnologies.
Professor Dr. Joachim Knebel, Head of Division III – Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, extended a warm welcome to the six Chinese guests. During 15 talks, panel discussions and lab visits, the scientists from both institutions discussed intensively possibilities for future cooperation. At KIT, representatives from eight research institutes took part in the event.
As a result of the meeting at KIT, a research workshop is to be organized in Shanghai in spring 2018. That event will allow researchers from both institutions to agree upon a detailed research agenda for the years to come. Moreover, for the first time, doctoral students and PhD candidates will spend some time at each partner university in 2018. In the long run, cooperation may lead to joint study or doctoral programs as well as to a joint research platform.
