Spanish Guests at KIT
This week KIT had a visit from Spain: the representatives from prestigious Spanish universities got informed about the German Excellence Initiative II as well as its distinction from the Spanish equivalent. In the style of the German competition, the program Campus de Excelencia Internacional (CEI) was initiated by the the Spanish government in 2009. In this program Spanish universities form an international campus of excellence that concentrates on different research areas in technology and the natural sciences. The objective is, among others, to increase the international visibility of Spanish institutions of higher education and make them more attractive for scientists and young talents.
KIT's vice president Detlef Löhe spoke about the future concept of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Eberhard Umbach, the president, presented the university management at KIT.
Following the speeches, the participants discussed in small teams the KIT merger process and the research and teaching infrastructures as well as many other interesting topics. The Spanish delegation visited, among others, the high-tech incubator at the North Campus. KIT Scientists wishing to start up an own business are able to use over 1500 square meters of office premises and completely equipped chemistry and physics laboratories.
