Christmas is a holiday for the whole family. At KIT, it is big and international: in December, more than 130 students and employees from all over the world met for a "Christmas Party".

The Group of Friends of Karlsruhe Research Centre has awarded Pascale Kohler from KIT International Affairs for the support of science in its international activities, especially in South America.

The meeting on December 12, 2017, 2 pm, aims at raising and sustaining awareness about this important topic and to address the needs of this especially vulnerable group of mobile researchers.

In Mid-November, the Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission visited KIT together with a delegation. The main topic was the environment.

Eleven students of KIT, who had passed an internship at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) under the MINTernship Program, present- ed their good results at a work- shop at the KIT in October.

At a joint matchmaking workshop in the beginning of October, scientists of KIT and the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute have discussed future cooperation projects.

From August 28, 2017 – September 2, 2017, the 4th Sino-EU Doctoral School for Sustainable Engineering (SESE) was hosted by KIT for over 50 doctoral students, professors and officials.

The Helmholtz Association and the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) selected the Karlsruhe-Russian Astroparticle Data Life Cycle Initiative (Dr. Andreas Haungs, KIT) as one of six joint research groups.

In the week of July 24-28, 2017, KIT received Ms. Yuan Yuan from the Graduate School of Shanghai Tongji University as part of its staff exchange with strategic Chinese partner universities.

In Paris, Brigitte Zypries, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, and her colleagues have agreed on, among others, joint calls for proposals on the field of renewable energy.

The European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) "Eucor – The European Campus" introduces the funding instrument "Seed Money" in early July. It aims to provide start-up financing for innovative cross-border research and teaching projects within Eucor - The European Campus.

The KIT is highly regarded among young Chinese scientists. This is confirmed by the response to the Helmholtz OCPC program 2017-2021 for Chinese postdoctoral candidates.

The Erasmus photo competition is popular: 160,000 times photos were liked, shared and commented. On the Open Day of KIT on June 24, 2017, the photos with most “likes” were presented.

In mid-May, the working groups "Quality Assurance" and "Joint Appointments" within Work Package 4 of the project "EUCOR – The European Campus" met at KIT.

The Institute for Beam Physics and Technology (IBPT) at KIT and the Advanced ICT Research Institute at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Tokyo plan to combine research activities. The collaboration, initiated by Dr. Erik Bründermann (IBPT) and Dr. Iwao Hosako (NICT), is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Both institutions shall encourage co-operation in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Accelerator Research and Technology (ART) with consideration of lasers, topics of timing and synchronization, stability of systems, and data science.

16.02.2017: A delegation of the Thai Ministry of Industry, headed by Somchai Harnhirun (Permanent Secretary for Industry), Siriruj Chulakaratane (Director General of industrial Economics) and Decha Chatutananant (Director Policy & Strategy Bureau), visited the KIT and the Institute of Production Science (wbk) in order to exchange information and experience on the topic of Industry 4.0.

On January 19, 2017, 43 participants of ENSAM and KIT met at the 2nd workshop of the German-French Institute for Industry of the Future (Institut franco-allemand pour l’industrie du futur). Four parallel sessions focused on planning joint research activities relating to production technology for future industry (production systems, robotics, virtual and augmented reality, and high-performance manufacturing processes).

Am 17.01. besuchte eine Delegation der Chiba University aus Japan das KIT. Die Chiba University führt derzeit im Auftrag des japanischen Wissenschaftsministeriums eine Studie zur Optimierung des Ingenieursstudiums an japanischen Universitäten durch. In diesem Zusammenhang informierten sich die Vertreter bei den Studiendekanen der Fakultäten für Maschinenbau (Prof. Carsten Proppe) und für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik (Prof. Sören Hohmann) über den Aufbau und die aktuellen Entwicklungen im Ingenieursstudium in Deutschland sowie am KIT.
